How to make the best Tick - Advanced Filming Tips

by Will Head

If a step takes more than seven seconds, think about recording it in the camera app.

If you’re planning to edit your clips, shoot in 4K and with plenty of space to spare so you can re-frame later.

If a step needs shortening later, don’t move the camera - it will make for a better edit.

Use portable lights if you have them. Can you see the subject clearly? Are there any distracting shadows?

What about reflections? Move the camera or change the lighting until you can see everything clearly.

Try and use a tripod that films vertically if possible.

If you can only film horizontal, frame in the middle and reframe in the edit.

Make use of zoom lenses if your phone has them.

Advanced camera apps provide more precise control over focus, exposure and white balance.
