Measure things in the real world using your iPhone

by Will Head

The measure app in iOS 12 lets you size up objects in the real world - useful if you don't have a tape measure handy

To use it, just search for an app called Measure and open it

Follow the onscreen instructions to calibrate it - it doesn't take long

Place the central dot on the spot you want to start measuring from, then click the plus button

Draw a line along the edge you're measuring, then hit the plus again - the measurement will stay attached to the object

It can recognise regular shapes, and show not just the size of the edges but also the surface area

For irregular shapes, you can draw from a point you've already created
